Fighting to defend oneself is not always the best solution, but sometimes it’s the ONLY solution.1

Chung So Nyun Hapkido is the youth’s version of the adult Combat Hapkido program, modified and structured to be easily taught to and safely learned by young students (7-12 years old). Youth Hapkido is fun to learn and far from boring, which improves student retention. While it is fun, it isn’t a “play karate;” it is a serious Self Defence that greatly improves your son's or daughter’s ability to protect themselves against an assault or other violence.

We've discussed Teens and Bullying as the type of trouble our teenaged children might face and identified that bullying might be at the top of the list for them. Well, we also have to acknowledge that bullying is also a problem for our pre-teens. Unfortunately, there is also a concern of adults who may want to harm our youngsters; training in Hapkido could be the different between making a narrow escape or not making it home.

We will do our best to give your sons and daughters the knowledge and skills they need to detect danger early and avoid that close call. If they find themselves suddenly cornered, they will be able to take immediate action to get out of trouble.

The Curriculum

The curriculum for the Youth Hapkido program is divided into three parts:
        • Foundation skills
        • Hapkido Ho Sin Sul (self defence) techniques
        • Elective subjects (unique only to East Coast Combat Hapkido)

Many experts, along with government, are working to mitigate bullying through peer mediation, intervention and conflict resolution programs. Many situations are successfully resolved but many others are not. In the end bullying, like violent crime, will always be around.

Foundations Skills

This area will cover the most generic but extremely important basic Martial Arts skills. This material is essential to the proper development of the student’s physical skills as well as his/her character, discipline, self-confidence, attitude and understanding.

Hapkido Ho Sin Sul (self defence) techniques

This is the actual self defence component of the curriculum. Ho Sin Sul techniques consist of breakaways, basic joint locks, basic defences against strikes and grabs, basic ground grappling to stand up quickly, technical concepts, and the Principles of Hapkido.

Elective subjects (unique only to East Coast Combat Hapkido)

Electives means that this portion of the curriculum is left entirely up to our school to teach (Note: it does not mean that it is “elective” for the student). Because the ICHF allows complete flexibility and autonomy to structure this area according to our needs, our youth will be taught the practicality of their skills and techniques and to apply them in various scenarios.
